I don’t know if I should take it personally or not but I recently had 2 interviews on the revitalization of downtown Kent — one for TV Channel 5 and one for WAKR Radio (AkronNewsNow.com) — and my insightful TV commentary apparently wasn’t so insightful with my air time edited out completely but the radio interview turned out great.
Showbiz is a tough gig and I guess this is confirmation that I have a face made for radio.
Truth be told I’d rather not be seeing my mug shot on any news stories and Kent was exceptionally well represented with the Kent City Mayor and City Clerk featured in the TV interview that aired last week as part of Channel 5’s special series on the best “comeback” cities in Northeast Ohio. It’s great to see Kent back on top where it belongs.
The Mayor is trying to get a hold of a copy of the TV broadcast because it was a great highlight reel of all the exciting stuff going on in downtown Kent. The reporter caught some great shots of live music, outdoor patio dining and smiling faces of customers enjoying all that Kent has to offer.
It was a solid 10 minute piece (can you imagine the cost to pay for that kind of airtime) celebrating Kent’s redevelopment success full of spontaneous testimonials like an info-mercial but the beauty is it didn’t cost us a thing. Kent was the headline news story and it was all good news.
Channel 5 News was definitely “on our side” with this story and one way or another we will get a copy of it, and when we do we’ll be sure to get it uploaded and linked for everyone to view. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, for your listening pleasure I’m happy to share a 27 minute radio broadcast that I was featured on with Jasen Sokol, a former host and media savant on KSU’s very own TV 2 who is now gainfully employed with WAKR radio in Akron.
Jasen invited me to be his guest on a program called Spectrum to talk about Downtown Kent that was aired last Sunday on WAKR as well as 97.5 WONE and 107.3 The Wave in Cleveland.
