I was informed that FHWA funds outside of traffic controllers (FAA) was not part of the sequester. None of the funding agencies (ODOT & AMATS) have suggested that the sequester would affect any of our federally funded projects. This includes the signal work, Summit Street and street resurfacing projects that are federally funded.
It turns out that ODOT just authorized us to advertise the resurfacing of Crain Avenue with federal money on February 28th so it would seem to be on-track irrespective of the sequestered funding issue.
It’s always dangerous drawing conclusions from such an uncertain situation so the best I can offer are guesses at this point. I suppose it’s a good news bad news situation. The good news is we don’t receive a lot of Federal Funds for our operations, so our financial exposure to the operating cuts is fairly small.
The bad news we don’t get a lot of Federal Funds to help relieve the local tax burden for the many operating services that we provide, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon.
