Kent Community Dinner
Honoring Kent’s community heritage, a group of Kent residents have been meeting once a month to share food and each other’s company in celebration of Kent and the many people that call Kent home. This is not some religious sect, political group or special interest action committee; it is simply a 1-2 hour chance for people of all persuasions to sit, eat and connect in a way that our busy lives rarely affords us anymore. To me, this is pure Kent — it’s low key, good food, and inclusive with no pretensions allowed.
The dinner is built on a belief that breaking bread breaks down the barriers that too often divide us. People come as they are, with the only condition to bring some dish to share. This weekend, June 17 at 6 p.m. the Kent Community Dinner is getting media coverage out of Cleveland, so I encourage you to join in and come to the Home Savings Plaza downtown at 6 pm Saturday — and remember all you need is some food to pass.
Your neighbors who have worked so hard to grow this small gathering into a Kent event asked me to post their “press release” for this Saturday’s dinner on the blog and I’m delighted to help out. So here it is:
Have You Heard?
Our own Kent Community Dinner will be taking place right downtown! Saturday, June 17th at 6 p.m. Home Savings Bank together with Gloria’s Koffee and Kakes will host the monthly event at Home Savings Plaza (corner of Main and Water Streets). The covered dishes we bring to share will be served inside. We’ll eat outside on the lawn and run inside if it rains. People from all walks of life come to the pot luck the whole town is invited to. Growing by leaps and bounds, it is making the news. Listen for the feature story on WKSU, 89.7 FM on Friday, June 16th at 6 p.m.
Kent has been known throughout northeast Ohio as being energetic, innovative, forward thinking with a wonderfully diverse mix of people. Now Kent is being presented with an opportunity to show northeast Ohio that Kent understands values and keeps community, as Cleveland’s Plain Dealer newspaper has done a feature story on our Kent Community Dinner. It will print shortly after the photo is taken. The photographer will take that picture at our June 17th Dinner!
If you have already attended you know how much fun the Dinners are. We see people we haven’t seen in years, meet new friends and enjoy a vast array of covered dishes. For those of you who haven’t made it yet – this is your chance to come and join us. The more the merrier! Let’s let all of northeast Ohio know that now Kent stands for Community!
