ODOT completed their paving work in Kent last week and 43 looks (and rides) great. But there’s more construction work being done around town and I thought I’d share a couple of notices that came across my desk.

Vine Street Residents
Beginning Monday, August 13th the City of Kent will be making pavement repairs to a section of Vine Street between East School Street and East Elm Street.
A portion of the work necessitates maintenance crews work in front of your drive apron and curb. This means that you will not have access to your driveway while this work is being completed. You will not be able to use your driveway for two days from the time that the road is closed and work begins at approximately 8:00AM, Monday, August 13th through Tuesday, August 14th until approximately 5:00PM.
You are being provided with a Temporary Parking Permit, which will allow you to park on Vine Street within the limits of the road closed barricades as designated on the permit. Please display this permit on the dashboard of your vehicle so that it may be seen from the outside by the Police Department.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during the pavement restoration work. Please contact the Department of Public Service at 330-678-8105 if you have any questions.

TERRACE DRIVE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC UNTIL AUGUST 17
Until approximately Aug. 17, (pending unknown underground site conditions and weather constraints) construction of a new utility tunnel from Oscar Ritchie Hall to Merrill Hall, requires the closing of Terrace Drive to through traffic. The tunnel crosses Terrace Drive just east of the “Brain” sculpture (“Behind the Brain Plaza at Merrill Circle”). Signs are posted at SR 59/East Main Street and Summit Street to indicate the street closure to through traffic. Fencing has been installed around the entire construction zone.
In addition, Merrill Circle (the loop drive behind Merrill Hall) and Bowsher Circle (the entry to the R-19 parking lot) are closed until approximately Aug. 24. PARTA transports can make a three-point turn at the west end of Merrill Circle, and vehicles may turn around at Flemming Circle on the east side of the construction site. The R-19 parking lot can be accessed from the west via the paved, temporary drive in between the Art Annex and Van Deusen Hall. Please note that this drive is one-lane wide and is a steep grade. Signs are posted to warn drivers of conditions and for protection of pedestrians on the Terrace Drive sidewalk.
Pedestrians are urged to use the University Esplanade and Commons walks leading to the east side of Engleman Hall to avoid this area and traverse campus in the north/south direction. Across North Campus, walks on the north side of Lowry, Merrill, Cartwright, and Kent halls will be the means to bypass the excavation east-to-west.
ROAD REPAIR WORK MAY IMPACT TRAFFIC AROUND KENT CAMPUS
Several roads around the Kent Campus are being repaired and although the roads remain open, at times traffic may be maintained when the asphalt trucks are maneuvering around the worksites.
Through Aug. 11, the following roads are being milled and paved: Loop Road from Horning Road to Eastway Drive, West Campus Center Drive, Eastway Drive at Petrarca, and the drop-off area in front of the MAC Center. Through Aug. 17, these roads are being milled and paved: Verder Hall rear parking lot and Summit Street at the Ted Boyd Drive intersection.
