Last Thursday morning a special luncheon was held at Akron City Hospital where four of our Kent Fire Department personnel were being honored by the Trauma Center for saving a girl’s life, who would have died without their actions and medical expertise.
The event was held at Akron City Hospital on Thursday March 1st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It was in the Professional Building, 55 Arch Street, in the basement pods. Lunch was provided.
The girl and her family were there along with about 100 other people.
The incident occurred on May 12, 2006 and involved a 20 year old female involved in an automobile accident. The patient had multiple trauma injuries and was not doing very well. Because of the HIPPA regulations I cannot give more details but the young woman’s injuries were life threatening.
The Kent Firefighters and Paramedics that were honored included Tony Bell, Jamie Samels, Brad McDougal and Brock Murphy. These guys were all involved in the treatment and care of the patient.
As a person that just completed my own mini-medical emergency I appreciate more than ever having such an exceptional city fire department. Fortunately I didn’t have to call them this time, but it’s nice to know that if I did, I would have been in good hands.
Don’t take my word for it, just ask the young woman who can answer that question today thanks to 4 of Kent’s best.
