Stuff happens, which is why we have back up plans for our back up plans, and we used one Friday evening.
It turns out that Friday evening our the City’s Dispatch Center in the old police building unexpectedly lost power.
Fortunately, we have a back up plan with Kent State University that automatically rolls our 911 calls over to KSU dispatch and we sent one of our dispatchers up to Kent State to handle those calls while our City IT Manager brought in an electrician to trace back the source of the power drop in our building.
After a couple of hours power was restored when we discovered that a breaker had tripped.
There’s a lot of stress when your dispatch center loses power and I appreciate the IT staff and dispatchers who hung in there and figured it all out without a disruption to emergency services.
It’s another reminder for why we’re anxious to finish the move into the new building.
