Good news — Mettis Construction company is finishing up a couple of jobs this week which they report will allow them to get on site in downtown Kent and get started on the Dan Smith Community Park — perhaps as soon as Friday, October 9th.
It turns out that the construction industry in northeast Ohio has been heating up over the last year — which is positive indicator for the local economy — but it meant being patient as time passed before Mettis could dedicate their crews to the construction of the new Dan Smith Park in Kent.
In terms of construction sequencing, Mettis will start with rough grading of the site and then over the weeks that follow carve out the areas for the individual elements of the park.
The project isn’t particularly complex but it includes a lot of special features which will take time to order and install. The biggest challenge will be getting everything delivered on a schedule that allows it all to come together at the right time.
I’m still hopeful that weather permitting, a lot of the Park could be finished this year. The plan is to build the stage, the seating and game area, and complete the signature trellis work in 2015 with the waterfalls and some of the playground equipment waiting for the return of decent weather in Spring 2016.
